Reconciling God, Creation and Humanity
Ecological Examen

In Laudato Si’ Pope Francis asked us to care for creation and to reconcile our relationship with God, creation and one another. Borrowing from the great Ignatian tradition of examens, this Ecological Examen asks you to reflect on your personal relationship with creation, to acknowledge and amend your ways and to promote ecological justice by standing in solidarity with those most impacted by environmental harm.

Developed by St. Ignatius Loyola, the Examen is a technique of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to detect God’s presence and discern his direction for us.

Novena for Earth Defenders

83 environmental defenders were killed in 2018. 197 were killed in 2017. Many more are being targeted by state forces or corporations and their security guards.

We invite you to stand in solidarity with the courageous people who defend our common home, especially indigenous communities, by praying a "Novena for Earth Defenders." You can download the PDF here.

We hope that the novena will be an opportunity for you to encounter God in those who are rendered poor, and to respond with justice, mercy, and compassion. We pray that our solidarity with these courageous people will awaken within us the grace of God, the Holy Spirit, who sets our hearts on fire and empowers us to be faithful witnesses to the Gospel.
