As Ash Wednesday reminds us, Lent is a time to “repent, and believe in the Gospel.” Many Catholics use Lent as an opportunity to go to confession, and all people of faith are invited to reflect on those times when we have fallen short of our highest ideals.
Today, take some time to reflect on your personal relationship with creation: to acknowledge the harm we have caused, to amends our ways, and to promote ecological justice by standing in solidarity with those most impacted by environmental harm.
To help you in your discernment, consider using “Reconciling God, Creation, and Humanity: Ecological Examen.” Developed by St. Ignatius Loyola, the examen is a technique of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to detect God’s presence and discern God’s direction for us. The Jesuits of the United States and Canada along with the Ignatian Solidarity Network developed this ecological adapation of St. Ignatius' original examen.
